Endorphin | Skin
The second album for this chap from North Queensland, Australia
combines a mish-mash of trip-hop beats, electronic music and drum
and bass. Although this is his second album, Endorphin a.k.a Eric
Chapus is not new to the industry. Chapus has secured the support
slots on tours with big dance names like Massive Attack, Portishead
and Faithless and has also written and recorded two hours of music
for an four-part extreme sports documentary, Adventure World for
Australian channel Seven Network. He has also remixed the sounds
of Men At Work and Stella One Eleven.
Despite all the other projects Chapus has undertaken,
he manages to come up with Skin, the culmination of
18 months of frantic creativity for the man. Skin is
about doing it hard in Sydney, basically, laughs Chapus,
who moved into the metropolis after recording his first album,
Embrace. He goes on to explain the change was not a deliberate
one, but rather one which stems from moving out into the city, touring,
and doing a lot of projects and gigs. You can also expect an interesting array of backup vocals in
Skin. Cindy Ryan from Stella One Eleven has lent her vocals
to Afterwords, while Tammy Brennan from Pavo Christatus can be
heard on Anguish and Time. Perhaps the most interesting vocal
comes from Chapuss three-year-old daughter Zoe on the track going
by the same name, and his girlfriend Sabina on skin which made
that track even more personal to Endorphin. That, plus the blending
of Beethovens famous Moonlight Sonata amidst trip-hop and jungle
breakbeats in the opening track , Blue Moon ensures a listening
experience not to be missed.
