ATB
Andreas Tanneberger is the man behind the trance act, atb, an abbreviation he records under. Originally from Freiberg, Germany, he has worked for acts like the Outhere Brothers and Haddaway, beginning with his first project, Sequential One.
From this he released his first single in February 1993, Dance, but he did not strike gold until in July 1999 with his melodic trance single '9pm (Here I Come)' when it became a UK No. 1 hit. Distinctive for its infectious melody and synthesized slide guitar sound, its feel-good ambience, funky percussion coupled with a strong bassline made it a perfect candidate to become the Ibiza anthem for that summer.
It was the perfect time for atb to make a cross over into the mainstream charts, like 1998's 'Music Sounds Better With You' (originally by Stardust). With a massive amount of radio airplay across continential Europe, atb proved to be extremely popular in dance clubs. Featured on atb's full-length debut, Movin' Melodies, the track also appeared on numerous duo-based compilations.
In the UK, the track was licensed from Germany's Kontor Records by Ministry Of Sound Recordings. He also mixed their 1999 compilation Clubber's Guide To Trance and played a live DJ set at the club itself. His role in the industry as a producer and a remixer is generally seen as quite a success; in recent times he has made titles by artistes like Moby and A_HA fit for the clubs.
In March 2000, atb released a cover version of Adamski's Killer, which reached the UK Top 5. His fourth single, The Summer, is featured in his latest album, Two Worlds, which also features projects with Heather Nova, Enigma and York.
