Solace DJs in The Box November 11th
The second set of progressive sounds from the growing group of DJs known as Solace performed at the Vivamusic Hub for three hours beginning from 7pm .This week, we speak to DJs Galvin and Peng, the guys who brought you a sticky round of highs and lows on the second level of Orchard Cineleisure.
Both DJs, who knew the Solace founder, had gotten involved with the team through their passion and interest for progressive music. Galvin, who has been spinning for more than two years, began his road spinning house, and he finds it natural to move on to progressive. As with most bedroom DJs, it is difficult to say when he gets to practice. However, Galvin feels it is better this way, since it is easier for him when he is in the mood.
Galvin and Peng also share the same inspiration. Besides Sasha and John Digweed, Galvin is also influenced by epic house. It was this same inspiration, plus the encouragement of his friends like Benny, Andy and Galvin, which helped Peng in his direction as a DJ. I am a big fan of Sasha and Digweed; in fact, my elder brother introduced me to my first Renaissance CD, and from there I moved to trance and later progressive.
So, any plans to go overseas? Hmm....this is purely a hobby, so I guess we wiil spin until we have no money! Galvin muses as Peng laughs and agrees. Solace is building up, so it will become more interesting with time.
Although the scene is quite stagnant, both DJs feel there is a lot of opportunity for Singaporeans to learn more about it, especially when the market is saturated with remixes of Top 10 hits. With Solace building up plus clubs like Nox and Zouk bringing in more progressive artistes, it is no surprise if we see the scene gaining more popularity. Next week we have DJ Yang at the decks, so look out for him!
