Not your typical musical on Broadway, winner of six Tony Awards (the theatre version of the Oscars), Drama Desk Awards, five Outer Critics Circle Awards, three Astaire Awards, the Special New York Drama Critics Circle Award and The Drama League Award, “Chicago The Musical” promises to thrill and excite audiences around the world. Now, they have come to our shores from 30 March to 16 April to do that exact same thing.

“Chicago The Musical” tells of the story of Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer who dreams of headlining in vaudeville. She murders her lover and convinces her husband to come up with US$5,000 to hire Chicago's shrewdest lawyer who turns her crime into celebrity headlines.

Naraating the tale in the sexy, jazzy style of vaudeville, the musical seduces the audience and brings them into the whole debacle as well.

Chelsea Gibb, who plays Roxie Hart, marks her professional debut in this musical. Acting as Velma Kelly is Sharon Millerchip and Simon Burke as the sharp-tongued lawyer Billy Flynn. Together, these three players sizzles up the stage with their chemistry and their sheer talent.

This 1996 musical is a revival of the 1975 John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse musical adaptation of the original play by Maurine Dallas Watkins in 1926. It is indeed like what John Cundall, Director of IMG Arts and Entertainment, says, “Chicago is unique; it is not about scenery or effects. It is about the revival of a classic Broadway musical with fantastic music, a clever, funny story, sexy, dynamic choreography, and great performances by a very talented cast.”
