Everywhere was red, the walls, the tables and even the chairs. Figures clad in red walked past hurriedly, everyone was talking to everyone. Here in Venom for Don Philip’s showcase, we’ve been waiting for an hour, because of rehearsals on the main floor. At last we were ushered from the Red room to the main floor of the club, where a stage was set up for the showcase. About 150 of Don’s fans were sitting on the dance floor and around the main stage when we came in. A few moments later, the star of the show, Don Philip appeared on stage, accompanied by three dancers.
Starting off the show with a rendition of "Sugar”", the song that was featured on the platinum "Drive Me Crazy" soundtrack, 23-year-old Don displays a few pretty polished dance moves of his own as well. Clad in a tight gray sleeveless top which showed off his well-toned body, and an equally tight pair of leather pants, the lanky singer made everyone groove to his infectious pop tunes.
Singing since the age of three, Don’s various musical influences include Dolly Parton, Amy Grant, Billy Ocean, Kenny Loggins and Bon Jovi. This well-rounded taste of music can be heard from his debut album.
Don then continued entertaining his fans with another single taken from his album, "If You Could See Me Now", as well as the hit single "You Make Me Love You… More". Then "Thank You" ,"Goodbye” and before we knew it, the showcase was over. "Huh?v I was thinking.
Perhaps it was the sound system, perhaps it was the whole rushed atmosphere of the showcase, perhaps it was the amount of songs that was performed, but it certainly left me wanting more!
