It was one thing to see Harbour Pavillion half empty, but another thing to see those who bought the seating tickets well, sitting down. Of course there were the die-hards among this group and they did attempt to create a concert atmosphere wayyyy at the back.
As the photographer, I was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy part of the event smack in front of the stage. All the screams and cheers by fans of both Melanie C and Madison Avenue were not ignored. In fact they were making so much noise that they almost (almost!) drowned out the two big speakers in front.
Starting off the night with a big bang, Miss Sporty Spice appeared in a sleeveless green top with a pair of jeans and sports shoes. The rock versions of Go, Something Happen and Northern Star were thus delivered. That was when the night took a downturn.
Ushered out of the privileged area, the group of photos and me were led all the way to the back, where the seating crowd was. From there, I could only see a rather miniscule Melanie, jiggling and head-banging her way through tracks like When You're Gone, her latest If That Were Me, Ga Ga and Suddenly Monday.
An interesting point in the night was when Mel actually uttered the F word in front of the audience. Of course being matured and understanding Singaporeans, everyone just laughed along with her!
Ending off her hour-plus concert, Melanie C performed the insanely danceable I Turn To You before running backstage, leaving the crowd in the capable hands of her band. As all concerts go, everyone stood up to leave, but not before Miss C bounded back on stage, singing Never Be The Same Again as her encore.
After attending this concert, I have just one wish. Ban all sitting seats from future concerts! Seriously!
