Marc Sheehan, Paul Walker, Terry Daly and Danny O'Donoghue. Unfamiliar names, yes. These four Irish lads make up the upcoming group, mytown.
Hailing from Dublin, these guys are not your ordinary boy-band. They co-wrote their self-titled debut album and they play their own music. All of them came from diverse backgrounds, Marc was a well-known choreographer, Paul was an actor who has appeared numerous times on Irish TV, Terry was a graphic design student and as for Danny, he was lucky to have gotten the break!
On the lazy Friday morning, the guys were very bright and chirpy when Vivamusic was there to meet them. They were already jumping around for a while when it was time for us to interview them. The most vocal of the lot and the only one with the huge nose ring, Paul (22), was very expressive when shot with questions. He would complement his answers with hand gestures that pretty much emphasized his points. He was very honoured that mytown was given the opportunity to perform during our nation's birthday celebration. "For a new group like ours, of course we feel delighted to be part of the celebrations," he said.
I asked them what do they think of our island. "Singapore is very clean! I've never seen a place as clean as this before," remarked Danny. When asked where would be the dirtiest place, "It must be Dublin."
"He has never been outside of Dublin. To him, Dublin is the dirtiest and coldest place on earth," and all of them roared into laughter. These guys are a bunch of jokers, always teasing each other during the interview.
On a more serious note, they felt lucky to have talented people like Boyz II Men, Teddy Riley of Blackstreet and Narada Michael Walden who has done hits for Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston producing and writing some of the songs on their debut album. mytown sounds span from pop to r&b to acoustic and they sing as well as they look. Their songs reach to all levels of audiences, which is cool because they have something for everybody.
They have proved their worth at the recent Concert by The Bay. Their powerful live performance made everyone took a notice of them. "That's one thing this band is all about, the live performance is as important to us as the music," Terry said. Surely, mytown has rocked our town!
