The Radio Music Awards 2001 14 July 2001 Singapore International Convention And Exhibition Centre
The Radio Music Awards 2001 organised by Mediacorp Radio saw a flurry of up and coming stars gracing the stage. Acts such as MDO, Standfast, Christian Wunderlich, Jared Douglas, 2Be3, Sister2Sister, Tanya Chua and Bosson appeared as pat of the star studded event.
But it was the hosts who stole the show. Madcap duo Rod Monteiro and Glenn Ong were draped in short dresses, fishnet stockings and those wonderful colourful wigs. They sent the audiences into stitches with their no holds barred jokes. They knew how to take the limelight away from the stars.
A special mention must be given to Asha, Singapore's very own diva in the making. With her soulful voice and original compositions, it is no wonder that she grabbed the "DJs' Choice New Local Act Award".
Christian Wunderlich, the handsome lad from Germany received the loudest cheer whenever his name was mentioned. Imagine the screaming fans when he appeared on stage to deliver "So In Love With You".
A pop underdog, Jared Douglas, came on stage with dancers in tow when he sang "A Better Man". Relatively unknown here, he wooed the audience with his powerful vocals. With that asset, he was probably the only star on stage that sang well live that night.
