Trans Musicales de Rennes (France)

One thought one had seen all of it, heard all of it, but it goes on. Convinced that there are always new goodies and oddies to discover, we sue our way looking for new sounds, new sensations, surprises and unexplored areas. For the 22nd edition of the festival, still in the heart of winter, the Trans Musicales de Rennes offer four days of discoveries and musical experiments.

Spirale Trans Into Zone

For the 2nd year, the Trans musicales invite the public to discover the detailed program of the 22nd edition at the Ubu Club: video clips, internet connexions, biographies of the programmes artistes will be at disposal. A DJ will mix the sound of this new edition and radio shows with Canal B radio will take place in the evening.

Bars en Trans

For 15 years, the Transmusicales have found, at the aperitif hour, their logical echo in bars through an off-festival that's spreading among hot spots.

Organised by ׁ P'tit Tour” association, the Bar en Trans festival, from November 29th to December 2nd, presents nearly a hundred and twenty concerts in 15 or so partner bars.

Bars en Trans has nothing to do with a wild off-festival, it can actually boast a real coherence within its program. It provides a good technical platform to bands. Although the name got changed from “Apero Trans” to “Bars en Trans”, the concept got refined without ever losing its genuine thirst for discovery dedicated to the audience. A highly festive atmosphere that mesmerises the passer-by right away and participates in the urban dynamic of the Trans Musicales. Since it's all free of cost, the festival lovers either go up for a round-down trip, let themselves drift along with the crowd or stick on to an artist. Some are happy with a small, burning sip of rock, or munch on a hip hop quick meal, others go for a song round or enjoy an electronic long drink. The recipe: no pre-made cocktail, let the great sound mix live and make room for young rock recruits, still unknown or already enjoying some popularity. Discovery is a word that sticks on to the event, and the past years' booklets confirm it. Turning pages randomly, one bumps into artists' names that were then totally unknown, such as Louise Attaque, Miossec, M, Mass Hysteria or Sergent Garcia. Gig lovers still talk proudly about those concerts. “Remember that Louise gig? Mind-blowing!” “What about Matmatah? What a perty…”

Again this year, Bars En Trans will appeal to the festival crowd's curiosity, associating regional, national and international artistes. As a tease before the final program (mid-October), here's a few slices of the edition 2000. Let's start with the unspeakable Svinkels, whose ethylic raps aims at bringing out the punk that's inside of us. Also festive, the wacky brass band “Les Fils de Theupu” and its procession of jumpy brasses. In a more intimistic way, Burgess will brew his compositions with a melancholic pop feeling, heightened by the strange and penetrating heat of brasses. On the rock side, Rennes-based bands, rather hardcore as Trickle or simply rock as L333, Paris originated combos like Citron, and even the Montreal-based Vulgaires Machins. True to its eclectic nature, Bars en Trans also invites a nice bunch of growing DJs with Mister Aul, DJ Nokman, Slider and Kafra and live Electro, Dub and techno sets thanks to Extra Extra, Kaly, Brain Damage or Yvi Slan, the Marseille-based Big Beat guru. let's not forget the awaited Liquid's Trip Hop, the sparkly song-writing of Branco Loco or the swinging Reggae of Raspigaous, One's Again, Dub Incorporation.

To be enjoyed without restraint…
