1988 saw the birth of Dreams Come True; subsequently in the following year, DCT released its debut self-titled album and single Anata Ni Kaitakute. DCT has since secured itself a position in the Japanese and Asian music industries with 10 major albums and 30 singles in the time frame of 13 years. Worthy of mention also is the impressive sales record of each of their album. The Monster - Universal Mix is the revamped English version of 1999's The Monster.
All English lyrics are penned by lead vocalist Miwa Yoshida. Forever the perfectionist, DCT spent the last 2 years producing this album paying extra attention not only to the re-recording and special remixes of the songs, but also in music arrangement. This devotion to improving the quality of the album is DCT's desire to bring a whole new musical experience to their fans. In addition, the group has not failed to present its fans with a visual trip. Making a 360 degree transformation from their previous agenda, the CD cover's brilliant red and the group members' cyber makeover shows the remarkable versatility and originality that DCT possesses to survive in this age of fickle consumers.
This album includes the 14 songs in the original The Monster and 2 bonus remixes, Song of Joy - Radio Mix and AHAHA - King Mix W.W.V. Song of Joy - Radio Mix croons the generous wonder and beauty in this world while AHAHA - King Mix W.W.V with its moralizing speak ('I'll stop looking back. I'll turn around and face myself the way I am today') encourages the listener to be optimistic about all problems. Most prominent in DCT's music is undoubtably the harmony between the 3 group members, which serves their music well. Whether it be soul, hip hop, blues or jazz, DCT always manages to stay on top of the current and creates its own unique flavour. For instance, take a listen to the songs on this album and each will command a different reaction.
It is perhaps not in a Japanese group's best interests to attempt an album in the English medium. Nonetheless, Yoshida's charismatic vocals manages to overcome the language barrier and touch the heart.
