Globe | Outernet
Globe comprises the Godfather of the Japanese music industry Tetsuya Komuro, along with Keiko as the lead vocals and Marc. The 12 songs on the album Outernet is jointly produced by Globe and Kine Naoto of TM Network. When you hear the term Outernet, you cannot help but question whether it is somehow related to the Internet. Well, check Globe's website and you may just be pleasantly surprised and impressed by Komuro's explanation. If you were surfing the Internet and wanted to find out the truth, the only way would be to step out of the cyber world and that takes a lot of courage. Outernet has this particular significance - when you need to search for a solution, you have to take real action otherwise you will sink deeper into your own virtual reality. Komuro believes that listeners will have an impulse to escape from the virtual reality of the Internet after listening to the album.
The album includes 6 new tracks - Outernet, Garden, Angel's Song, Lies In The Garden Of Music, Another Sad Song and Soft Parade. The track Outernet has a complex prelude lasting 2 minutes and Keiko's dreamy and trance-like vocals seem to spring music listeners into Globe's new world of music. The tracks on the first half of the album show a strong pattern of experimental music especially the solely musical piece Throwin' Down In The Double. Like A Prayer seems to me, an effort to maintain Globe's regular dance style yet simultaneously it has a fusion of experimental rock, rap and crosses the boundary of several other music genres. Is it a perfect cocktail or a genre identity crisis? To each his own; nonetheless it is evident that the group is seeking to break new ground.
Most listeners will prefer the second half of Outernet as it is more mainstream and thus, easier to accept. Tracks like The Main Lord has a familiar soft rock feel to it; Lies In The Garden Of Music and On The Way To You warm the heart with their soothing love tunes. Outernet brings you through a rush of emotions which eventually settles down; each listener will have to face the music and determine whether the trip is worth it.
