They're regarded ad national treasures in the new South Africa for their captivating Zulu harmonies and devotion to their homeland. This 10-man acappella chorus, introduced to the West in 1986 by Paul Simon on Graceland album and tour, sing such close, nuanced harmonies that the effect is one deep, rich, resonant and proud voice. On the stage, Ladysmith's sonorous vocals, charismatic stage presence and colourful ahoreography leave audiences of every culture spellbound. Says founder Joseph Shabalala, There is something in me, in my veins, that needs music. That's all. To me, it is good to sit down and sing.
