September 21 & 22
Choo Hoey ~ conductor; Alexander Markovich ~ piano
SSO will be changing its programme this weekend to accommodate the flight difficulties encountered by guitarist Angel Romero.
To replace Rodrigo’s guitar concerto intended for this weekend’s concert is Rachmaninov’s highly popular Piano Concerto No. 2. Rachmaninov’s music is known to be full of emotional intensity and directness and this work is no exception. To perform this great Russian composer’s work is Moscow Conservatory trained Alexander Markovich.
SSO Conductor Emeritus Choo Hoey returns to lead the SSO in this performance opening the evening’s programme with Haydn’s last symphony (The London). Bringing the concert to a spirited end are highlights from Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable ballet Swan Lake.
Pre-concert Talk at 7.15pm on both nights by Lionel Choi.
Tickets: $12/$17/$22 (stalls), $28/$38 (circle)
