Throughout the 1970s his fame grew, aided by his collaborations with French pop performers including Johnny Hallyday and Michel Sardou; by the early 1980s, he was touted as France's best-selling performer. In 1982 Clayderman stormed the U.S. and Britain, issuing a collection titled The Music of Richard Clayderman, which, thanks to a highly successful television advertising campaign, went on to sell millions of copies on both sides of the Atlantic.
