John Simmons | The Future's Yesterday Is Tomorrow
Not unfamiliar to regulars of Vivamusic.com, John Simmons is one half of Eurekavibe, which sees him complementing Merenia's voice with instruments and other musical inputs. His solo release can be seen as combining global forces musically, with influences ranging from different countries and folk songs to jazz and reggae. String instruments like the guitar are very often used in this 11-track album, lending a different feel to each track. Even lines from a movie, philosophy and science can be incorporated into music, as seen in “The Book of Water”, “Nah Und Schwer” and “Einstein's Brain”.
Generally an ingeniously creative effort, this musical soundscape combining sources from different roots, language and background teases and surprises. Not your everyday listening menu, this is only for those willing to step out of the pop musical comfort zone.
