The movie was a flop, but the soundtrack wasn't. Not when George
S. Clinton did compose it. He is easily one of the most inventive
composers of the lateNot convinced? Witness his work on Wild Things.
In The Astronauts Wife, Clinton pushes hard in his score, giving the film
more than it deserves, by mixing and matching styles and developing
some truly eerie juxtapositions of convention and avant-garde.
It gives a whole feeling of space and mysterious sounds. However,
no matter how hard the album tries to get the movie going, the
movie still faces resistance in development. Yet, isolated on
its own, Clintons work truly blossoms on it own. As a
soundtrack album on its own, it works.
