Off her debut album "On Gardner Street", "It's About" is Anika
Paris's breakthrough into the industry as a singer. She is
not new to the scene, however. Paris's songwriting has accredited
her with eight albums to date plus a scholarship award for
best unsigned songwriter.
Born into a family with strong musical background, Paris is
not about to venture far from the family tradition. Besides
her talent for songwriting, Paris was also in her brother's
pop jazz group before she made the difficult decision to make
it on her own. Her strong vocals are resonant of Sheryl Crow
or Alanis Morisettte's. Paris wanted this to be an honest
album since she felt 'people are always hiding behind a lot
of masks when they perform and lose touch with who they really
are". The tracks on the album are snapshots of love, conviction
and confession. On the whole this album can be said to balance
optimism and longing in a new, engaging way.
Unfortunately there are one too many love songs on the market
and critics may dismiss this as yet another love crooner.
But listen to the catchy tune and you may actually disproof
the critic within. The album will not be released until June
this year so in the meantime listen to bits of "It's About"
and decide for yourself. She is worth the waiting time.
