With a name as unique as these four from Texas, you can hardly
miss them. Jaret von Eirch, Erik Rodham Clinton, Christopher
van Malmsteen and Gary Wiseass make up Bowling
For Soup, their third album since 1997. You may remember
them on our local airwaves doing a spunkier version of Canadian
singer Bryan Adams’ single "Summer of ‘69".The punk rock/Ska group got inspiration for their name from a
1965 essay written by Harvard International Affairs professor
Robert D. Putnam. His philosophy of Americans needing
to bowl in a group or organization mirrors frontman for Bowling
For Soup Jaret von Eirch’s ideas. Von Eirch feels
bowling together is an essential and integral part of social
communication and interaction in the American society. Hence
the name for the group.
Their single, "The Bitch Song" from "Let’s Do It For Johnny"
has been receiving much airplay in the U.S. but don’t count
on the local censors to let it loose on our airwaves. Other
choice tracks to look out for, however, are "Suckerpunch",
"Scope" and "Belgium", the last two of which were remixed
by Mark Wallace of Everlast and Faith No
More fame.
In addition to their album, you can listen out for these four
boys in a song they penned specially for a new Tiger Woods
video game to be released soon in the U.S. Definitely something
to look forward to if you follow the likes of Green Day.
