Zazie might not be a familiar name to most of us in Singapore, but she is a popular face that frequently appears in the French media. Since her first appearance in the music scene in 1992, she had won numerous French Music Awards, the French equivalent of the prestigious Grammy Awards.
Her first album was nominated for Best Album in 1992, and the following year, she was voted Best New Singer. Three years later, in 1996, Zazie won the award for Best Video Clip. Then came the Artist of the Year award in 1998, and in 1999, her album clinched the Best Album Award. This year, at the soon to be announced French Music Awards, Zazie has been nominated for Best Performance. It does seem like this lady is indeed no stranger to the French Music Award scene.
Paris born Zazie is best known in Europe for her intelligent and humourous style, catchy rythms and piquant lyrics, which she writes, composes and performs by herself. She also composes for other French music stars such as Patricia Kaas, David Hallyday and Pascal Obispo. Zazie's influences for her music include English pop rock bands like U2, Radiohead, Peter Gabriel and more recently Placebo. She is a trained piano and violin player, and also plays the guitar. Besides having musical talent, this stunning musician also holds a brief modelling career in Paris. Her portfolio includes modeling for Kenzo, Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Zazie made her last-stop in Singapore for a performance at The Rock, while on her first ever tour of Asia, following concerts in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar. This performance was the finale of the first Francophonie Festival to be held in Singapore.
