A whirlwind 100 hours world tour by the world's biggest selling group just to promote this particular album. Which was written and recorded with the group in total seclusion, even from their wives. So it was with much anticipation and bated breath as I opened the case and played the CD.
The Backstreet Boys are back with their fourth album to date and they are beginning to find their own sound in this mish-mash of pop that are perpetuating the market right now. But many of the tracks sound uncannily like what label-mates N'Sync and Britney Spears have, with synthesized tunes and vocal effects. Their trademark of not having only one lead singer comes across very strongly for this album especially AJ and Nick's vocals.
The album hits you hard with the first track, The Call which is basically about how a guy two-timed his girlfriend with the latest of technology, the handphone before melting into their first single from the album, Shape Of My Heart. I especially liked Everyone, a song that's pretty similar to Larger Than Life, as it is dedicated to all their fans. Of course the perfunctory love ballads is a must and each and every single ballad contains so much emotions that you can't help but melt into the lyrics. Guaranteed to score well with all lovers out there.
From Spanish tunes to R&B, Black & Blue is also the Boys' second attempt at song-writing. Not only that, they also did a track with R&B singer, Babyface, entitled Time. Aptly titled, this latest release by the Backstreet Boys is set to put them into a different league in the next step of their career.
