Aaron Carter
Like most kids his age Aaron Carter likes video games, movies, and racing dirt bikes. However, though Aaron may have the usual tastes for a twelve-year-old boy, there is one thing about him that separates him from the rest of the prepubescent pack: while most guys his age haven't given a second though to a future career, Aaron has already embarked on his. In other words, although Aaron is a normal adolescent who collects baseball cards and fights with his twin sister Angel to see who gets the shower first, there are a few things about him that you might not know. For starters, he holds the record for being the youngest singer (usurping Jimmy Osmond of the honor) to have four consecutive top ten singles in England, he's opened for the Backstreet Boys, he performed on Nickelodeon's 'All That Tour' last year, and in just two years he has established himself as a major international recording star.
With his cheerful demeanor and upbeat personality, Aaron is a happy and carefree young man who has known all his life that he wanted to be a singer and a performer. Aaron started singing and dancing at the age of two, and found instantly he had a knack for doing both. I learned to sing when I was able to talk, Aaron recalls. From there I would sing while I did spins around the house. Fortunate enough to have the privilege of watching his older brother Nick's meteoric rise to fame with the Backstreet Boys, Aaron was a diligent understudy to his brother, quietly taking notes and learning how to handle life under the spotlight. I knew for sure that I wanted to be in the business when my brother first joined the Backstreet Boys six years ago, Aaron recalls. I went to all of his rehearsals, and I would always go home and practice all the dance steps I saw. Plus Nick always gave me advice about being in the public eye--he's taught me to not be big-headed and to stay down to earth.
Aaron may be a down to earth guy, but Aaron's Party (Come Get It) (to be released September 26, 2000) could be the album that sends him to the top of the world. If nothing else, Aaron's Party (Come Get It) is an uptempo album that comes across as a soundtrack of how to have a good time. Featuring ebullient numbers that incorporate bits of pop, soul, R&B, salsa and reggae, the main concern of the album thematically is that the listener loosen up and be seized with the sudden need to dance. It's a lot different from my old album, Aaron admits, It's filled with party songs and I think it's more about fun than anything else. From the thick funk cheer of Bounce, replete with a latin-flavored countdown and a salsa-fueled backbeat, to the celebratory rhythms of Real Good Time, Aaron's Party (Come Get It) is a rich and spirited pop record that sizzles with a lively buoyancy.
One of the album's biggest surprises is Aaron's version of the new wave cover-classic I Want Candy, which was popularized by Bow Wow Wow in the early eighties. On the track Aaron's expressive voice imbues the song with more of an edgy jubilance than its previous incarnation. Elsewhere the anthematic Aaron's Party (Come Get It), is a catchy rap number about having a party while your parents are away, and Aaron's rendition of the popular and ageless children's spiritual Iko Iko, is a dreamy and irresistible offering that is perhaps one of the most infectious numbers on the album.
With his popularity rising all over the country, Aaron confesses to having a deep gratitude to all of his fans, and admits to regularly using the Internet to communicate with them. My fans are the best, he says. They're all really great and really supportive. I love them all very much. They're the ones that make everybody who they are. I log onto the Internet all the time to check in and say hi to everyone. My record for instant messages is thirty-five at one time. Although that may seem to be a daunting number of messages to handle, it's an example of how Aaron's tireless energy can be not only entertaining, but generous. He's like a little ball of energy, his mother Jane Carter (Spectra Management, co-manager along with Johnny Wright of WEG) says, he has a charm and real magic and is generous with them both. Aaron's generosity both as a performer and a personality has helped him cultivate a rabid fan base. Already at this point in his young career, Aaron is unable to even go out alone in Europe or South America because his fans are so enthusiastic, they tend to get a little out of control. I can't go out in Argentina, he says, they mob me all the time. It's amazing.
There will be a tour to support the album, a book on Aaron called The Little Prince of Pop, which was penned by his mother, and there will be a continued dissemination of all Aaron Carter activities via his highly interactive and comprehensive official Aaron Carter Web site (www.aaroncarter.com). With so many imminent plans, Aaron knows that in the coming months not only is his schedule going to be jam packed with rehearsals, interviews, making videos, and touring--all of which will leave little time for him to indulge in his hobbies of dirt bikes and hanging out with his friends. However, even though Aaron is aware that being a high profile star can be tough, and that his future is going to be busy, hectic, and tiring, he keeps it all in stride: No matter how crazy it gets, he says, I can always go into my room to relax. I've got a really cool room filled with beanie babies, baseball cards, and strobe lights; I have no problem totally winding down.
