Craig David

A name synonymous with “Fill Me In” and “ 7 Days”, Craig David has already won fans all over the world. Only 19 years old, he has amassed fame and fortune only others can dream of.

A Southampton native, he started songwriting during his younger days. Armed with a notebook and pen, he would scrawl his lyrics while recording his melodies on the Dictaphone. At 14, he started MC-ing on local pirate station, PCRS 106.5 FM and the clubs around his area. Soon enough he ended up on the decks himself. His sounds were predominantly R&B but he was attracted to garage room by heavy reggae baselines and +8 accelerated tempos. It was at that time too that he paired up with Mark Hill (one half of Artful Dodger crew).

He won a national writing competition of which his mother pushed him to enter. Craig finished up “I'm Ready”, the B-side of Damage's No 3 hit, “Wonderful Tonight”. Since then, he began work in the studios which required him to travel up to London every weekend. And it was in London that he did his first recording, “Human”, his own R&B rendition of Human League's hit.

With Mark Hill as his partner, together they produced Craig's first hit, “What Ya Gonna Do” which was eventually known as “Rewind”. Craig signed on with Public Demand and “Rewind” soon became a must-play track in the underground scene. That particular track brought the duo performing all around the country's top clubs. Henceforth, Craig's songwriting talent and vocals got noticed.

Craig grew up listening to artistes like Terence Trent D'Arby, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. Now stars like R Kelly, Usher, Donell Jones, Faith Evans, Cannibus, Nas, Redman and Britney Spears gets his respect as all-round artistes.

“Born To Do It” is the product of Craig's self-penned materials. Although he discarded his notebook for a laptop, his lyrics only got better. “Fill Me In” is the follow up to his “Rewind” single.

Months after the release of “Born To Do It”, Craig's debut album is definitely one which has the makings of a chart topper. Its' infectious melodies, vocal prowess and wonderful lyrics are simply irresistible. Craig David is one future superstar to look out for!
