Sugar Ray
Orange County, Southern Californian-based Sugar Ray comprising of Mark McGrath on vocals, Rodney Sheppard on guitar, Stan Frazier on drums and DJ Homicide (Craig Bullock), owes a large part of their success to combining pop, punk, metal and hip-hop.
Their first release, Lemonade and Brownies, the title of which was based on an advertisement in a pornographic magazine, introduced their unique blend of high-energy music to the scene in 1995, featuring singles like Mean Machine and 㥶 Seconds Down.
1997 marked the boost of Sugar Ray's career with their single, 'Fly', which held the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for six weeks consecutively. This single also resulted in their second release, 'Floored', in reaching double platinum status.
'14:59', their third album a humble description of their fifteen minutes of fame in the industry, received countless approving reviews from many, including Rolling Stone and The Los Angeles Times. Turning triple platinum soon after, singles like Every Morning and the follow-up single Someday also topped various billboard charts around the globe, sealing Sugar Ray's popularity in mainstream airwave music as well as in live performances with their punchy and grubbily charismatic sounds.
Their latest self-titled album was a chance for the band to reflect their emotions and even dreams in the manner of lyrics and music videos. The first single from this release, When It's Over, is based on McGrath's breakup after a seven-year long relationship; while in the music video for this song each member was allowed a sequence of their choice to be shot. Sugar Ray, the album, also gave the band a chance to work with 311 singer/guitarist Nick Hexum, as well as producer Don Gilmore (of Linkin Park, Lit and Eve 6 fame).
Besides a five-week North American tour with Uncle Kracker in mid-July, fans can also look forward to an exclusive collaboration with Cartoon Network for the production of an animation clip for When It's Over, to be released only over the Internet.
